Introduction
The 54th annual meeting of the EGG will be held on 6th-8th April 2010 at the University of Stirling and hosted by the School of Biological and Environmental Sciences. EGG is an informal meeting that brings together scientists working in population genetics and evolutionary ecology, mainly, but by no means exclusively, from the United Kingdom and other European Countries. Talks, discussion topics and posters are welcomed from students giving their first presentation, to senior academics presenting completed work, and we would like to encourage all to participate, to create a vibrant and stimulating meeting!
Guest speakers
Opening address: Professor Laurent Excoffier (University of Bern)
Estimation of past history and test of evolutionary scenarios under an Approximate Bayesian Computation framework
Closing address: Professor Richard Abbott (University of St Andrews)
Plant invasions, introgression and species delimitation: some exceptions to the rules
Programme: Available here!
The conference will start on Tuesday 6th April 2010 12 noon and will run through to 2pm on Thursday 8th April 2010. As at all EGG meetings, there will be an afternoon field visit to a local site of ecological and conservation interest. In 2010, we will visit the Bumblebee sanctuary, a Bumblebee Conservation Trust and RSPB partnership initiative near Vane Farm, which is part of Loch Leven National Nature Reserve. On Tuesday 6th April, a welcome mixer will inaugurate the poster session and on Wednesday 7th April, The Conference Gala Dinner with a Scottish flavour will be hosted by the Royal Hotel in Bridge of Allan with fantastic entertainment provided by Skelpit Lug Ceildih band.
Location (where to find us?)
The meeting will be held at the foot of the Ochils Hills in the beautiful surroundings of the Stirling Campus of the University of Stirling, conveniently located in Central Scotland, halfway between Glasgow and Edinburgh, both with International Airport. Stirling has good regional rail link with Scotland’s main cities and there is also a direct Citylink coach service from Edinburgh to the University.
Delegates will be accommodated at the Stirling Management Centre on campus or at the Royal Hotel in Bridge of Allan which is only a short walk from the University of Stirling.
